Eligibility Criteria
The University of Chester requires all international students to be proficient in English communication and has established a benchmark for assessing the competence of applicants.
The primary way to demonstrate English competence is through IELTS or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).
To be eligible for undergraduate courses at the university, applicants must have an IELTS Academic/Indicator score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-skill, while PTE Academic requires a score of 61 overall with a minimum of 59 in each sub-skill. For postgraduate study at the university, equivalent scores are 6.5 for IELTS and 65 overall for PTE Academic.
Applicants who are unable to meet these language competency benchmarks can nonetheless apply and may still gain admission if their applications are competitive enough, but may have to provide additional evidence such as references from accredited institutions or SAT or ACT scores (if applying from within the USA) to prove that they have adequate knowledge and experience in English communication and study techniques. The University also operates an in-house language program with support from experienced English teachers throughout someone’s studies.
