Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the DET programme vary depending on the applicant’s prior experience or teaching qualifications. 

Applicants must be 19 years of age or over, with at least one A-level (or the equivalent) and four GCSEs with a grade C and above in English and Maths. 

Additionally, applicants must have access to 100 teaching hours of inclusive teaching/training as well as proof of having arranged or confirmed a work placement.

Those without the necessary qualifications can still apply but will have their suitability for the course assessed based on prior work experience or professional qualifications. 

Lastly, non-English speaking applicants will need to provide evidence of their English language proficiency with an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher and no section scoring lower than 5.5. Once the applicant meets the English language requirements, he or she can start completing the application form.

Course Contents

To meet the requirements of this qualification, they must gain a minimum of 120 credits, with 75 coming from mandatory units and 45 coming from optional units; in addition, at least 61 credits must come from the Level-5 range of units. Learners also need to complete 100 teaching practice hours (volunteer teaching, part-time / full-time, paid/unpaid teaching).

The mandatory units are: 

• Developing Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training (the achievement of unit 3 is a prerequisite for this unit)

• Wider Professional Practice and Development in Education and Training. 

Learners can choose between a variety of levels 5 or above from the optional units can complete their credit requirements.
